Payment protection insurance (PPI) is an insurance that is sold alongside credit cards, loans, mortgages and other finance agreements, PPI was sold to  insure that repayments can be made if you are unable to make them due to sickness or unemployment.

Why could it have been Mis sold?

All cases of potential mis-sold PPI are different. For example, if you have had PPI on a Credit Card, Loan or Mortgage a  claim for mis-selling can be made in any of the following reasons.

  • If you were self-employed, retired or unemployed when the PPI policy was taken out and you were not asked about your employment status then your policy may have been mis-sold. 
  • If you were sold a PPI policy and any pre-existing medical conditions that may have prevented you from working were not taking into consideration. 
  • If you were advised that your PPI policy was a compulsory. 
  • If you were told that you’re that it would be more likely your application would be successful if the PPI policy was taken. 
  • If you had a PPI policy where you had no knowledge that PPI payments were part of the policy, some agreements put the emphasis on the clients to opt out of the PPI policy and this was not always explained at the point of sale. 
  • If you already had a sick pay scheme at work or a personal policy that would pay out the same as a PPI policy should you need to make a claim. 
  • If you were not advised that this policy was optional or that it was possible to be taken out with another provider. 
  • If the total cost of adding PPI to the loan wasn’t clearly explained to you or if the quote you were given for the cost of the loan automatically had PPI added
